Integrating the Arts & Performance
Problem
Arts, music, and theater are often relegated to the fringes of curriculum, seen as lacking intrinsic value compared to core academic disciplines (i.e. math, science, reading, writing). School buildings reflect this bias with art spaces isolated from the primary learning environments.
Solution
The arts are critically important for developing the creativity and problem-solving skills that are of increasing importance in today’s economy. Given their educational relevance, it is more important than ever to acknowledge that the arts are integral to other disciplines and find ways to embed arts education into the daily experience of students. To achieve this, it is beneficial to embed environments for creativity, the arts, and performance spaces throughout the school.
