Problem

Shifting educational and pedagogical paradigms require increased collaboration among teachers; yet, there is often no space designed specifically for this purpose. When spaces do exist, they often are riddled with problems including clutter, poor lighting, and limited visual transparency.

Solution

Provide designated, welcoming spaces for teachers to work individually and in teams. Key features include lighting, acoustics, ventilation, views/vistas, and varied furniture. It can be beneficial to have teacher collaboration rooms embedded in each learning community where the space is connected to and has views of, the learning commons. This visual transparency provides passive supervision, making learning commons safer and better utilized and making it easier for teachers to be in their collaboration space.
