Dr. Joseph South is the founder of Learning Accelerant, a consultancy that applies the learning sciences to help organizations redesign learning experiences to address the cognitive, emotional, and aesthetic needs of learners. Joseph is also the originator of Purpose-Driven Expertise, an approach to learning that empowers young people to discover, prototype and enact their purpose and then develop expertise aligned to their purpose by putting it into practice in their communities. He is also the Chief Innovation Officer at ISTE+ASCD, the combined organization serving educators worldwide through the International Society for Technology in Education and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. He leads strategic initiatives in AI literacy, digital transformation, and professional learning, including the GenerationAI program that has prepared over 200,000 educators to integrate artificial intelligence into teaching and learning. Joseph previously served as Director of the Office of Educational Technology at the U.S. Department of Education, where he advised the Secretary of Education, shaped national edtech policy, and expanded access to digital learning for schools nationwide. He serves on the steering committees of TeachAI and EDSAFE AI. South holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Psychology and Technology.
